People Digest: Validus makes key hires; InfraRed NF names strategy head

Singapore’s leading SME financing platform Validus Capital has announced three key senior hires for further expansion in Southeast Asia while Hong Kong-based real estate investment manager InfraRed NF has appointed head of strategy and business development.

Validus Capital announces several key hires

Singapore’s leading SME financing platform Validus Capital on Tuesday announced three key hires to boost its technological capabilities as the company prepares for further expansion in Southeast Asia.

Sonal Jain joins the management team at Validus as Chief Data Officer. In her role, she will deliver innovative data solutions for SMEs while meeting regulatory compliance requirements. Sonal has held senior roles at Indifi and American Express across Asia Pacific and Europe.

Arvind Rao, who held senior roles at Citibank and Barclays, joins Validus as Chief Technology Officer. He will be responsible for the global technological architecture of the Validus platform.

Vincentius Ivan, who held senior management roles at Citibank, Bank BTPN and Bank Permata, will join Batumbu, Validus’ Indonesian arm, as Head of Technology and Innovation in end May. In this role, he will oversee technology adoption and implementation at Batumbu in Indonesia.

In April, Validus Capital launched an Indonesian arm for SME financing, Batumbu, entering its first Southeast Asia market outside of Singapore.

Batumbu is led by Sonny Christian Joseph, who has over 23 years of SME banking experience in Indonesia and was previously the head of SME banking at Indonesian bank BTPN.

Validus Capital also raised S$20.5 million ($15.2 million) in an oversubscribed Series B funding round in February.

InfraRed NF appoints Head of Strategy and Business Development

Hong Kong-based real estate investment manager InfraRed NF on Tuesday announced that it has appointed Ong Chi Tuan as Head of Strategy and Business Development.

In this role, Chi Tuan will work with InfraRed NF’s senior leadership team to expand the firm’s platform and lead  the firm’s capital raising and investor relations activities.

He will also work with InfraRed NF’s investment team to develop strategic investment themes to drive business growth. Chi Tuan will be a member of InfraRed NF’s Executive Committee.

Chi Tuan joins InfraRed NF from Park Hill Group where he led their real estate private equity advisory and placement business in Asia.

He was previously with the Real Estate Group at HSBC where he was involved in the origination and execution of investment banking transactions for real estate clients in Greater China.

Established in 2007, InfraRed NF is a joint venture between Hong Kong-based Vervain and InfraRed Capital Partners, a global investment manager focused on infrastructure and real estate. InfraRed NF has invested over US$1.75 billion across 23 transactions in Greater China.
