Peter Fang, a former senior director for corporate investment, mergers and acquisitions at Baidu, has returned to VC firm Sinovation Ventures as a partner, while global asset management firm Aviva Investors has poached two senior hires from BNP Paribas.
Fang returns to Sinovation Ventures
In his new position, Peter Fang will focus on investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and relevant technologies, an announcement revealed today. Fang had previously worked for Sinovation from 2011 to 2014.
“The return of Peter Fang as a partner will make Sinovation Ventures more successful in cutting-edge technology and AI investments. He brings his management experience in mid- and late-stage development and exit strategy,” the firm said in its statement.
From June 2014 to November 2017, Peter served as the Senior Director of Investment and M&A at Baidu.com, where he led strategic investment and acquisitions that included Uber, Velodyne, Taboola, Planet Labs, Raven, Kitt.ai and SoundAI.
Prior to Baidu, Peter was a Principal at Fidelity Growth Partners Asia and Investment Director at Sinovation Ventures. In addition to Internet applications and services, he focused on payment, financial services and cloud computing and smart hardware related projects.
Aviva Investors beefs up Asia team
Global asset management firm Aviva Investments has appointed Adeline Ng as head of Asian Fixed Income and Alice Wu as an analyst. Ng and Wu will be based in Singapore and will join the firm on December 11, 2017.
Ng will report to Dan James, global head of Fixed Income, and will be responsible for leading Aviva Investors’ fixed income business in the region. Alice Wu will report to Ng, and will be responsible for further development of regional credit research, aligned to Aviva Investors’ global corporate research platform.
Ng was previously head of Asian Fixed Income at BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNP AM) between 2008 and October 2017. Prior to that, she worked for John Hancock International and OUB Asset Management.
Wu was also previously at BNP AM between April 2014 and October 2017, initially as a portfolio analyst before being promoted to fixed income analyst in March 2016.
Aviva Investors recently appointed Thijs Hupkes in the newly-created role of Director, Real Estate Client Solutions, APAC and Middle East. Hupkes has close to a decade of experience in the real estate investment management industry. Most recently, he was with CBRE Global Investors, where he spent more than eight years in its Amsterdam and Singapore offices.
