Singapore-based energy and resources firms are in the process of a series of acquisitions and divestments, as they negotiate the fragmented markets of the region and consolidate their positions relative to their competitors, in the aftermath of the market shock caused by the downturn in prices.

A central factor in the sharp oil price drops has been the continuing reluctance of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to intervene and stabilise oversupplied markets, which OPEC declining to cut production despite insistence from member states Iran, Venezuela and Algeria.
