The fresh acquisition plans follow its divestment of 49 per cent stake worth $850 million in Masinloc Power Partners Ltd, a power plant in the Philippines.
“We have to reinvest our cash so we are negotiating with some operators in this region. If it goes as planned, we will acquire the plant with higher capacity than Masinloc before the year end,&#8221;   EGCO’s chairman Witoon Kulcharoenwirat told local media on Tuesday.
EGCO reported net profit of 20.2 billion baht ($607.9 million) in the first quarter, of which 14.2 billion baht ($427.32 million) came from the divestment of its stakes in Masinloc and its 18.72 per cent stake in Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Pcl.
By end of the first quarter this year, EGCO has a combined power generation capacity of 4,804 MW. Of that, 4,260 MW are from 26 operated plants in five countries including Thailand, Laos, the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia.
The company has three power plants under development, of which two are in Laos and one in the Philippines.
